DSK Hyosung presently is the premium sport bike manufacturers in the Indian market. The price range of the Hyosung bikes starts from a modest Rs. 2 lakhs, which is the price of the Hyosung GT250R. Come the 2015-16 season, and DSK Hyosung will be looking to up their ante and aspire for greater volumes. Plans for the introduction of a single cylindered, 125cc motorcycle in India are already underway.
The motorcycle will feature numerous local components which will in turn help in keeping the costs low. It will be manufactured in the upcoming factory of DSK at Karad which is still under construction. It is approximately 200 kms off Pune. A factory in India will also allow DSK Motowheels to kick start the localization of its existing motorcycles in the market.
Operations at the new factory in Karad, is all set to begin towards the end of 2014. Till then, DSK and Hyosung would continue rolling out motorcycles from the present assembly operations at Wai, in Maharashtra. Manufacturing bikes from its factory in Pune will increase DSK’s dependencies on local content which will in turn reduce the price of its products by 35% at least. When the price drops, more Hyosung motorcycles can be expected to ply on the Indian roads.
Currently, the partnership of DSK Hyosung have 5 motorcycles in the Indian market – the GT 650 N, GT 250R, GT 650R, Aquila 650 and the ST7. All the bikes are assembled from CKD kits at Wai and feature V Twin engines. DSK Hyosung has 26 dealership points all over India from where they coordinate their sales.
